Current student, Brigette de Valois is working towards the Custom Dressmaking/Small Business and Technical: Apparel Industry Oriented Certificates. A friend referred Brigette to the Cañada College Fashion Department when Brigette was first learning to sew 8 years ago. Prior to studying fashion at Cañada College, Brigette obtained two bachelor’s degrees in Languages and Interior Design. Her previous careers included working in commercial interiors in Chicago and Real Estate and loans. Brigette was one of our $1000 scholarship recipients last Spring. She loves that she is able to focus on her studies full time, and not work, as the winnings help cover her tuition and supplies.
Brigette’s fashion goals include opening a business that combines her love of hats with her love of fashion from the 1920’s to the 1940’s. As a student, she was able to get an emerging designer booth at our Artistry in Fashion event. The annual event (mark your calendars for next year’s show on Saturday, September 26, 2015) raises funds for the student scholarship fund and fashion departmental supplies in addition to providing an exciting shopping opportunity for our guests, hosting a fashion show, open house, and learning opportunities for our students. Brigette participated in the show to gain experience and insightful feedback from Artistry in Fashion attendees as well as selling her hats. A few of her designs are pictured below.
