Have you been following the journey for this year’s US Olympic Opening Ceremony garments? After the public’s disappointment that United States Olympians’ garments were created in China for the 2012 Games, Ralph Lauren committed to making the garments in the US for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games.

Here is the story of the Imperial Stock Ranch in Oregon that provided the wool used in the sweaters. The inspiration for the sweater’s design came from the idea of a patchwork quilt.

The wool was then spun into yarn in Pennsylvania at Kraemer Textiles. Next it traveled to North Carolina’s to be dyed. Lastly, the garments were knitted in California.

The other Olympic gear worn by athletes were also created in the US.
