After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing from Chico State, Gennifer Rose began working as a Visual Merchant at Kohl’s. She was there for four years, then she worked in corporate sales and product development for Levis.
Gennifer began pursuing her associates degree in Fashion Merchandising from the Cañada Fashion Department because she wanted to learn more about garment construction, textiles, pattern drafting, and merchandising. She felt that she learned a lot from her previous jobs, but she wanted to learn more in depth so she will be more knowledgeable in other areas at her future jobs.
As part of her education plan at Cañada College, Gennifer interned at Urbanization in San Carlos. She’s currently been there for 7 months. In her words, she’s been awfully busy.
I’ve experienced how vendors and buyers interact, and how the buying process works with Purchase Orders and delivery dates. How the product is priced based on wholesale prices. Also, we do a lot trend forecasting and consumer research to make sure we are buying relevant product. We research what our competitors are buying and their price points. My favorite parts are travelling to the trade shows and seeing what’s trending a year ahead. Trade shows that we attend are Magic and Project, and SF for CALA.
In addition she has many positive things to say about Cañada. Gennifer loves the sense of community in this program, and how everyone is free to be themselves and yet they all work together so well. More telling than anything is the fact that it is the first time Gennifer has enjoyed going to school. She plans on continuing to take more classes after graduation to further round out her skills.
